Peugeot 205 1.6 GTI Road Rally

DSC02501_0.JPG

a note from Richard Pennick...

"I've finally been introduced into the world of Motor Sports, many, many thanks to my Friend Andrew Clark of Folly Motorsport who has now extended the honour of adding me to the team. Andrew invited me to a slalom at Matchams to which I gratefully attended as a co driver. Embarrassingly I managed to break Andrews 309 GTI no less than three times in as many hours but managed to put in some good times (and some not so good times) in-between pushing the car to the side to allow the rest of the guys to have a go, luckily Andrew knows his car well and got it back on the road again quickly. Anyway after the day had ended and even before I got in the car to go home I had ideas running around in my head about what I needed to do to get myself a car for the next event. The next thing to do was to agree on a car, my initial thought was for a mini so I hit "a generic web based bidding site" as soon as I got home and subsequently found loads for sale at the 500 quid mark. It took a few days to find what I was looking for but then typically with these generic web based bidding sites I got gazumped at the last thirty seconds. Then for some reason I started broadening my searches and found a nice little 1.6 205 GTI nearing the end of its auction, "nice one" I thought, "I'll keep an eye on that one", then sure enough I gazumped someone at the last thirty seconds and bagged myself my first project car for a mere £386 with a years MOT, so I though I'd splash out on his OZ racing alloys too for £80 for the set. First job is to strip it out as much as possible, I couldn't wait.

I had my first Event at Matchams a couple of weeks ago now and this time it was Andrews turn to see how much damage he could do, as unfortunately his car was now off the road getting a new gearbox specially made. It was only fair to invite him to co drive my car to return the favour. My poor car lasted the 2 rounds and then suffered a major leak and leaked its coolant all over the place. Andrew had a replacement at home but we had to wait for Karen, Andrews faithful wife, to come to our rescue so we could continue the day, Karen got the part to us just after lunch and we had it back together again and off we went. Due to rather a lot of missed times though I managed to pull in last, but I still had a fantastic day and although the cars water went every where it didn't dampen our spirits (I know, it's very lame).

Since then I have been trying to prep the car for the next event, when ever that may be. So far I have been down the scrappy and got myself a battery lead from a BMW coupe and stuck my battery in the boot just to give me some more room under the hood for the cone filter which I haven't got yet but that will be there for the next event. Also I'm trying to cut down on the amount of pipes that are just about every where. Other than that the car is as standard as it can get for the time being. Oh I did replace the back shoes too but only with standard shoes until I get some penny together. The Chav lights were on the car so if you know anyone that wants them please let me know!!"
